Render a custom pagenotfound page when user enters an invalid URL

In App\Exceptions\Handler.php,
modify render() function as follows:

For normal case,
public function render($request, Exception $e)
{
if($e instanceof NotFoundHttpException)
{
return response()->view(‘core.error.pagenotfound’, [], 404);
}
return parent::render($request, $e);
}

For pagenotfound case with different roles,
public function render($request, Exception $e)
{
if($e instanceof NotFoundHttpException)
{
$role = Utility::getCurrentUser(); //get the role of currently logged in user

if($role == 1){
return response()->view(‘core.error.pagenotfound’, [], 404); //role=1 is admin and admin error page is displayed
}
else {
return response()->view(‘core.error.pagenotfound_patient’, [], 404); //if other roles, corresponding erorr page is displayed
}
}
return parent::render($request, $e);
}

In Utility, getCurrentUser() function is like this:
public static function getCurrentUser(){
$role = Auth::guard(‘User’)->user()->role_id;
return $role;
}

To use Auth in Handler.php
modify app\Kernel.php as follows:
– move “\Illuminate\Session\Middleware\StartSession::class,” from “$middlewareGroups” to “$middleware” section…
